Changing Landscapes

With Daniel Escobar

Changing Landscapes started with the appropriation and organization of photographies made by companies specialized in external advertising. They constantly take photographies of the places where adversiments are exhibited to show the work done to the clients. We used the archive given by Fator 1 Outdoor company, from Belo Horizonte, which contained about 10.000 images made between 2004 and 2008.

The archive, originally organized by client or date, was reorganized by places, in such a way we have now long sequences of images documenting the changes of a place along some weeks or months. After we had reorganized the archive, we programmed the work using Flash. The work loads a sequence of images taken in a single location, and shows a column of each image, randomly. As a result, we have an image composed by columns from several photographies, all of them taken in the same location. The final image contains different viewpoints and luminosities, given the variation of sunlight along the day, and the changes in weather.
